Radio days at the Pond

All-star concerts have become as much a part of the holiday landscape as mall Santas. Among the first of these radio station promotions are the “Jingle Ball” from Top 40 powerhouse KIIS-FM (102.7) and the “Not So Silent Night” from adult-contemporary station Star 98.7-FM. Both are at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim this year.
On Friday, “Jingle Ball” will be trotting -- or, in some cases, sprinting -- out Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys, Avril Lavigne, Maroon 5, Ashlee Simpson and others who frequent the station’s playlist. “Not So Silent Night” turns 5 this year with a show featuring the reunited Duran Duran, Austin’s Los Lonely Boys, singer-songwriters Alanis Morissette and John Mayer, plus the usual surprise guest or two.
These events might not offer the ideal way to catch your favorite act -- most performers sing three or four songs, sometimes to recorded backing, then blow kisses as they hustle off stage. But as a sampler of who’s hot in various radio formats, they’re a good way to go.
KIIS-FM’s “Jingle Ball,” Arrowhead Pond, 2695 E. Katella Ave., Anaheim. 6 p.m. Friday. $55-$150. (714) 704-2500.
Star 98.7’s “Not So Silent Night,” Arrowhead Pond, 2695 E. Katella Ave., Anaheim. 6 p.m. Monday. $55-$135. (714) 704-2500.
