Trial Over Alleged Coup Plot Suspended

Authorities in Equatorial Guinea indefinitely suspended the trial in an alleged coup plot, awaiting information on the alleged roles of international financiers said to include Mark Thatcher, son of the former British prime minister.
The government alleges a foreign-bankrolled plot to overthrow President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo’s 25-year regime in the nation, Africa’s No. 3 oil producer. Nineteen suspects are in prison pending the outcome of the case.
