U.N. Tribunal Appoints Lawyers for Milosevic

A United Nations war crimes tribunal appointed two lawyers to represent former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic despite his objections.
The judges at The Hague acted on cardiologists’ warning that the defendant’s life would be at risk if he continued representing himself. Milosevic, who faces charges that include genocide, denounced the ruling until a judge shut off his microphone.
British lawyers Steven Kay and Gillian Higgins had been serving as neutral observers.
