WASHINGTON, D.C.
The Army flew a 178-foot blimp carrying infrared cameras over the Pentagon and parts of Washington to test its ability to spot threats to U.S. government facilities, officials said.
The unarmed airship carried three people and surveillance equipment already being used to protect U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, officials said.
The blimp also is being tested over a Marine Corps base at Quantico, Va., the Chesapeake Bay and the Army’s Ft. Meade in Maryland, the Army said.
