After a three-year fundraising effort, plans are underway to break ground on a visitors center for a stretch of the San Mateo County coast that serves as a breeding ground for elephant seals.
The $3-million center at Ano Nuevo Point will offer exhibits about the world’s largest mainland colony of elephant seals and other local wildlife.
Construction is to begin in September and be completed in October 2006.
