Husband Wins Lawsuit in Chemotherapy Death

A jury in Fort Lauderdale awarded $8 million to the husband of a woman who died after chemotherapy that wasn’t necessary because she didn’t have cancer.
The jury ruled against Coral Springs Medical Center, University Hospital in Tamarac and two doctors. Pending expected appeals, they will each have to pay Charles Pandrea a portion of the award, Pandrea’s attorney, Michael Ryan, said.
A private autopsy showed Janet Pandrea had a benign tumor in one lung that could have been operated on, but she did not have cancer, Ryan said. He said she developed side effects from chemotherapy that ultimately led to her death.
