Pacific Gas & Electric Co. said it would study laying an undersea transmission cable to carry electricity from the Pacific Northwest to the San Francisco area.
Pacific Gas & Electric, a unit of San Francisco-based PG&E; Corp., said it would work with Sea Breeze West Coast Cable, a joint venture between Sea Breeze Power Corp. of Canada and Maine-based Boundless Energy NW Inc.
If the project goes ahead, the cable would run 650 miles from a power substation near Portland, Ore., to the San Francisco area and carry 1,600 megawatts of electricity, or power for about 1.3 million homes.
