Cracking up in chilly Alaska

THEIR friends raved about Alaska, so last June, Chuck Larsen and his wife, Shelby, of Pacific Palisades, signed up for a one-week cruise organized by tour company Abercrombie & Kent. Their 20-passenger yacht stopped for a few hours just south of Juneau, where Larsen snapped this picture of the calving of Sawyer Glacier. He shot it with a digital Canon Rebel XT, using an image-stabilizing zoom lens. “You get an idea of the size from the picture. The sound just booms,” said Larson, a TV distribution consultant.
