The Watergate Office Building, site of the bungled 1972 burglary that led to President Nixon’s resignation, was sold by Trizec Properties Inc. to closely held BentleyForbes Group for $86.5 million.
BentleyForbes, based in Los Angeles, owns office buildings and other commercial properties in 14 U.S. states.
The 11-story building in Washington’s West End area has 200,000 square feet of office space and 61,000 square feet of retail space, Trizec said. The Watergate building was completed in 1968 and renovated five years ago.
