Need for Water-Rate Increase to Be Studied

From Times Staff Reports
The City Council on Wednesday approved spending $370,000 for a financial consultant to examine the Department of Water and Power’s books and determine whether a proposal to raise water rates 19% over five years is necessary.
The council required the review after neighborhood councils protested last year that rate increases were being approved without justification.
The DWP is considering raising water rates up to 4.3% in January and an additional 15% over the next four years.
