Shooting Suspect No Longer a Deputy

A San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy videotaped shooting an unarmed man after a high-speed chase is no longer employed by the department, a spokeswoman said on Friday.
Ivory John Webb Jr. left the department April 13, sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Beavers said. She said a state law prohibited her from offering additional details, or to say whether Webb had been fired or resigned.
Webb, 45, is charged with attempted voluntary manslaughter in the Jan. 29 shooting of Air Force policeman Elio Carrion, 21. The incident, recorded on amateur videotape, sparked a national furor because it appeared to show Carrion following Webb’s orders just before he was shot.
Webb, who pleaded not guilty and is free on bail, could receive an 18 1/2 -year prison sentence if convicted.
