at New York 5, Seattle 4: Melky Cabrera homered leading off the 11th inning and the Yankees won their fifth in a row and ninth in 10 games. The game was delayed 1 hour 58 minutes because of rain. Scott Proctor (3-2) worked a hitless 11th for the win.
at Boston 1, Kansas City 0: Rookie Jon Lester (5-0) gave up only one hit in eight innings and Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth for the Red Sox. Boston scored in the fifth on a double by Jason Varitek and run-scoring single by Alex Gonzalez. Lester pitched very efficiently, throwing 100 pitches, including 57 strikes.
Texas 5, at Toronto 2 -- Hank Blalock hit a go-ahead single in a five-run eighth inning and the Rangers rallied from a 2-0 deficit for the victory. Vicente Padilla (10-5) won his fourth start in a row, giving up two runs and seven hits in seven innings.
at Minnesota 8, Tampa Bay 1 -- Francisco Liriano (11-2) topped fellow young gun Scott Kazmir (10-7), giving up three hits over 8 2/3 innings. Kazmir, in his first start in nine days, gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings.
Oakland 5, at Baltimore 4 -- Bobby Crosby and Mark Ellis hit consecutive homers, and the Athletics scored two runs without a hit in the fourth inning to take the lead for good against the Orioles. Kevin Millar homered for Baltimore, which failed for a fifth time to forge a four-game winning streak.
