Man Convicted Again of Ex-Girlfriend’s Murder

A Garden Grove man was convicted Friday for the second time in the killing of his estranged girlfriend by shooting her 14 times at an Anaheim gas station in 2004.
Gary Clifford Laine, 51, could face life imprisonment when he is sentenced Friday in Orange County Superior Court.
Prosecutors said Kim O’Hara, 44, of Anaheim and a male companion were eating lunch at a sandwich shop in the gas station when Laine arrived in a truck and asked her to come outside and talk. Once outside, prosecutors said, he shot her 11 times, then pulled up next to her in his truck and shot her three more times before fleeing to Texas, where he surrendered to police.
Laine’s previous conviction in 2005 was thrown out because of an omission in the instructions to the jury.
