Ortiz Spoils Return of Damon to Fenway

From the Associated Press

David Ortiz hit a three-run home run to ruin Johnny Damon’s return to Fenway Park and lead the Boston Red Sox to a 7-3 victory over the New York Yankees on Monday in the first meeting of the season between the American League East rivals.

Mark Loretta’s single ended a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning and Ortiz followed with his 11th homer. Booed each time he came to the plate, Damon, who left for New York as a free agent after last season, was 0 for 4.

“I heard a lot more cheers than jeers,” said Damon, who waved his helmet to the crowd. “Regardless, I wanted to do it because these fans meant so much to me.”
