Democrats’ failure to communicate

Re “Running against the boogeyman,” Current, Oct. 29
Jonathan Chait is correct when he states that “if you’re like most people, you probably have no idea what [the Democratic] agenda is.” Where he’s not correct is in blaming the Republicans for not responding.
The GOP is most certainly responding, and that response is taking the form of plastering Democrats with the usual tar and feathers: Those darn donkeys will raise taxes, sabotage security and allow those uppity gays to run rampant over our traditional values. And yet, even as that message reflects the Republicans’ escalating internal crisis, they can get away with it because Democrats are not talking about what needs to be talked about.
A vision unexpressed is a vision that can and will be exploited. The Democrats deserve the House, if only they can tell us why.
