Area Near LAX Loses Power for Several Hours

Power was knocked out for several hours Saturday night in a commercial and industrial area surrounding Los Angeles International Airport, but runways and terminals were not affected, airport and utility officials said.
A glitch with power lines caused the blackout about 8 p.m. Saturday, darkening restaurants and hotels in the area.
Most customers had their power restored within a few hours, said Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Terry Schneider.
Airport spokesman Harold Johnson said a backup system kicked in when the power was interrupted, avoiding any problems with operations at LAX.
