* Former New York Stock Exchange Chairman Richard Grasso on Thursday won a delay of a trial over his $187.5-million pay package, which New York Atty. Gen. Eliot Spitzer has called excessive. A New York state appeals court granted Grasso’s request for a delay until it resolves two pretrial appeals. The trial had been set for Oct. 16.
* Ameriprise Financial Inc.’s Securities America unit agreed to pay $16.3 million in fines and restitution after a broker coaxed clients at Exxon Mobil Corp. into retiring early based on exaggerated promises of high investment returns, the NASD, formerly the National Assn. of Securities Dealers, said.
