2 men killed as vehicle runs off road, hits tree

Two men were killed early Saturday when their vehicle careened off the road and hit a tree, authorities said.
The crash happened just after 2 a.m. on Cook Street just south of Country Club Drive. Both victims were declared dead at the scene, according to a Riverside County sheriff’s official.
The victims were driver Scott Van Nimmo, 51, of Chula Vista, and passenger Keith James Hamilton, 35, of Indian Wells, according to the Riverside County sheriff-coroner’s office.
The vehicle may have been speeding at the time of the crash, authorities said, but the cause of the accident was under investigation.
