at Cleveland 10, Minnesota 4: Jhonny Peralta homered twice and Kenny Lofton began his third go-round with the Indians by getting three hits. Peralta hit a three-run homer in the third off Boof Bonser (5-7) and added a two-run shot in the sixth when the Indians opened a 10-0 lead for Paul Byrd (9-4). Lofton played left field for the first time and was three for four with an RBI in his first game for Cleveland since the 2001 playoffs.

Boston 7, at Tampa Bay 1: Tim Wakefield (12-9) allowed one run over six innings and Kevin Youkilis hit a three-run homer to lead the Red Sox. Wakefield improved to 17-2 against the Devil Rays, the most wins by a Tampa Bay opponent. He is 8-0 at Tropicana Field. The Devil Rays have lost seven in a row, getting outscored, 71-21.

New York 8-2, at Baltimore 7-4: Rookie Jeremy Guthrie (7-3) limited the Yankees to two runs in six innings and Baltimore won its fifth straight. Earlier, the Yankees beat the Orioles in the completion of a game suspended by rain in the eighth inning June 28. Yankees closer Mariano Rivera gave up a run in a harrowing ninth before earning his 16th save.

at Chicago 4, Toronto 3: Jermaine Dye homered and Juan Uribe hit a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth inning to lead the White Sox. Reed Johnson matched a career high with four hits for the Blue Jays, who had a season-high five-game winning streak ended.

at Kansas City 6, Texas 1: Brian Bannister (7-6) pitched seven shutout innings and Billy Butler hit a three-run homer for the Royals. The Rangers’ Sammy Sosa hit his team-leading 16th homer and the 604th of his career.

at Seattle 7, Oakland 1: The Mariners improved to 19-8 against left-handers, the second-best mark in the majors.

at Angels 11, Detroit 6: The Tigers’ Curtis Granderson homered, his 16th of the year and 14th with the bases empty.
