Disconnect on insurers’ approach

Far from taking risk out of the equation, California’s insurers have always recognized the state’s susceptibility to wildfires and the enormous economic repercussions such events could have for policyholders. (“Insurers taking risk out of the equation,” Consumer Confidential, Oct. 26.)

Columnist David Lazarus writes about insurance scores and health insurance claim denials, and quotes an academic on long-term care and aging. What any of this has to do with the wildfires, I do not know. I am quoted accurately saying that insurers will honor every claim in accordance with their contracts and that policyholders will be fully compensated for losses.

Speculation that the current fires will cause rates to rise or policies to be non-renewed is unwarranted.
