A Eureka wood-pulp manufacturer reached agreement Tuesday with federal and state environmental agencies to significantly reduce its pollutant emissions.
Under the settlement, Evergreen Pulp Inc. will pay a $900,000 fine and spend $4 million to install pollution-reduction devices at its plant, according to a statement from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Evergreen Pulp allegedly violated the federal emission standard for hazardous air pollutants by about 230% and violated monitoring, reporting and record keeping requirements, according to the statement.
