Re “Why the Change?” Letters, Aug. 5
This letter reflects confusion about the state attorney general’s actions regarding Proposition 8. The actual language of Proposition 8 remains untouched. Voters will still be asked on Nov. 4 whether to change the California Constitution to provide: “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”
As The Times reported, only the ballot title and summary, including the statement of fiscal impact, were changed. The new language more accurately describes the potential effects of Proposition 8 in the wake of the California Supreme Court’s decision affirming the constitutional right of same-sex couples to marry.
