A teenage boy died early Saturday, hours after he was shot several times in a drive-by shooting in the Harbor Gateway area of Los Angeles, authorities said.
Daniel Moran, 17, was talking to a friend in the 1600 block of West 220th Street about 9 p.m. Friday when a silver vehicle pulled up next to them, said Officer Norma Eisenman, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
She said someone inside the vehicle fired several times at Moran and his friend, hitting Moran in the upper torso. Eisenman said the friend was not injured.
Witnesses told investigators that the vehicle then sped off, heading east on 220th Street. Moran was taken by ambulance to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:55 a.m. Saturday. Authorities said it was unknown whether the shooting was gang-related.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the LAPD’s Harbor Division at (310) 513-7017.
