Sara Jane Moore, the radical accountant who attempted to assassinate President Ford in 1975, was paroled last week after serving more than 30 years in prison. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that today, Moore looks like a “kind, doting grandmother” who would “blend in at a library social.”

So where are the rest of the assassins and would-be assassins of her era? Below, a look at their status.

Lee Harvey Oswald

Victim: President Kennedy, who was assassinated in Dallas in 1963.

Where is he now? Oswald, a former Marine and defector to the Soviet Union, was killed by Jack Ruby while in police custody two days after the assassination.

James Earl Ray

Victim: Martin Luther King Jr., who was shot and killed outside his Memphis hotel room in 1968.

Where is he now? Ray, who pleaded guilty but later claimed that he was the victim of a conspiracy and even wrote a book about his alternative view of events, died of liver failure in prison in 1998.

Sirhan Sirhan

Victim: Sen. Robert F. Kennedy of New York, who was shot and killed in Los Angeles in 1968.

Where is he now? Though Sirhan contends he was hypnotized during the murder -- and requested that the Ambassador Hotel not be demolished to preserve evidence of his innocence -- he remains in Corcoran State Prison, having been denied parole more than a dozen times. He is now 63.

Eligible for release? His next parole hearing is in 2011.

Arthur H. Bremer

Victim: Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace, who was left partially paralyzed after the 1972 shooting and who spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Where is he now? Bremer, 57, was released in November after serving 35 years of a 53-year sentence. The man who once dreamed of shooting President Nixon became a model prisoner who worked as an educational aide.

Lynette Alice “Squeaky” Fromme

Victim: President Ford, who was unhurt

Where is she now? Fromme, who acted 17 days before Moore and who once escaped from prison in an attempt to visit Charles Manson, remains in a Texas prison. She is 59.

Eligible for release? Fromme has refused to participate in parole hearings in the past.

John W. Hinckley Jr.

Victim: President Reagan, who was hit in the lung in 1981 but survived.

Where is he now? Hinckley, who said he attempted the assassination as a way to woo actress Jodie Foster, remains in a Washington psychiatric institution, which he has been allowed to leave briefly to visit his family. He is 52.

Eligible for release? Rules for his brief furloughs were eased in June.
