Shut prison at Guantanamo, officer urges

The top U.S. military officer said he would like to see the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, closed because its image had damaged America’s international standing.
“I’d like to see it shut down,” said Adm. Michael G. Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. “I believe that from the standpoint of how it reflects on us that it’s been pretty damaging.”
But, Mullen said, “There are enormously complex, complicating legal issues that are way out of my purview.”
