Iraqi official alleges Kadafi’s son aiding rebels

BAGHDAD — A son of Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi is behind a group of foreign and Iraqi fighters responsible for a devastating explosion in northern Iraq, a security chief for Sunni tribesmen fighting insurgents said.

At least 38 people were killed and 225 wounded in the blast Wednesday that destroyed about 50 buildings in a Mosul slum.

The tribal security chief, Col. Jubair Rashid Naief, who also is a police official in Anbar province, said the group responsible was the Seifaddin Regiment, which he alleged includes foreign fighters supported by Seif Islam Kadafi, 36, the Libyan leader’s eldest son.

“I am sure of what I am talking about, and it is documented,” Naief said.
