Re “Egyptian idyll, if only for a day,” July 19

I am a newspaper reader. I am thrilled the writing is exceptional -- as it often is with Times writers.

This article regarding the Egyptian idyll was superb. I was there, slipping momentarily into the sea of ancient history, the skin of a modern-day Egyptian laborer and the knowledge that we are all sliding into the abyss of a crumbling age.

It was all there -- great, informed writing.
