Anna Gunn

The AMC series “Breaking Bad” airs its first-season finale Sunday, and though costar Anna Gunn plays the beleaguered spouse of terminal-cancer case/drug-dealing teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston), things are breaking quite well for the 39-year-old Hollywood Hills resident. After all, it looks like another cable coup, following her work on HBO’s “Deadwood.”

BIG PLANS, LITTLE PLATES On Friday, my husband and I would leave our young daughters with a baby sitter and have a nice dinner with friends at AOC on 3rd Street. It’s a French restaurant that serves Cal-French small plates; the Spanish would call them tapas. UP AND AT ‘EM On Saturday morning we’d get up with the kids and go to breakfast at Square One Dining in Hollywood. The girls handle it well and the staff is incredibly warm and friendly. They make an eggs Benedict with smoked salmon instead of Canadian bacon. My kids get pancakes and fresh juice. DOGS, DINNER AND A MOVIE In the afternoon, we’ll take the dog for a walk up at Lake Hollywood dog park. That gives everybody a good workout, but it’s a little too much for my younger daughter. In the evening, and speaking of tapas again, we like Cobras & Matadors in Los Feliz. It’s a beautiful space, low lighting and great Spanish wines. After that, we’ll stop off at the ArcLight. BREAKING FAST On Sunday we’ll have brunch at Hugo’s in Studio City. I always get Desayuno Fuerte (Strong Breakfast): two poached eggs over potato pancakes with sauteed spinach, garlic, onion, tomatoes and shredded Parmesan. Then we’ll wander around the caves up in Bronson Canyon, which I think is where they used to film the “Batman” TV series. Also, my older daughter loves getting her nails painted, so I take her to a salon called INails on Hollywood Boulevard. CURTAIN RAISER Sometimes we’ll go to the Falcon Theatre in Burbank, which has great shows for kids, usually musicals. If I get any time on my own, I’ll go to Beverly Hot Springs in Koreatown. It’s got real mineral hot springs bubbling in the middle of L.A.
