Merchant policy being investigated

Visa Inc. and MasterCard Inc. said U.S. antitrust enforcers were investigating their policies that bar merchants from charging extra to customers who pay with credit cards.
The companies disclosed in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission that the Justice Department had demanded information on the merchandising rules. American Express Co. also disclosed in a filing that it had received a similar demand for information from the Justice Department.
