SATURDAY’S RESULT
Concord De La Salle 64, No. 3 Compton Dominguez 38
Leading contributors: Junior forward John McArthur scored 12 points and senior guard Jeff Powers had 11 for De La Salle. Junior guard Keala King scored 13 points for Dominguez.
The scoop: Dominguez made only three of 19 three-point attempts and committed 20 turnovers to 14 for De La Salle. “We didn’t execute our offense,” Dons Coach Duane Cooper said. “We didn’t play Dominguez basketball. We settled for too many jumpers.”
Why it matters: Dominguez, ranked No. 12 in the nation by USA Today, failed to secure a confidence-boosting victory over No. 10 De La Salle in advance of the playoffs, where it could meet the likes of Santa Ana Mater Dei, Riverside King . . . and De La Salle, if both teams advance to the state title game. “It’s a little bit of a wake-up call,” Cooper said, “but we have to learn from this and keep going.”
Records: De La Salle 21-1; Dominguez 20-5
