One more rather picky point regarding Janis Cooke Newman’s story on Mary Todd Lincoln [“In Mary’s Footsteps,” May 3].

When she writes the “Buchanans were slow to move out . . . “ it should be noted that there actually weren’t Buchanans in the usual sense because James was a bachelor and his niece, Harriet Lane, served as first lady. I guess it would be proper to say that “Buchanan and his niece” were slow to move out. Details, details.
