Cave, sweet cave

Los Angeles photographer Ann Summa went underground -- 45 feet underground -- to capture the Sleeper family at home. Curtis, Deborah and their three children reside inside an abandoned mine in Festus, Mo., where about 2,000 square feet of living space have been laid out under the sandstone ceiling. Why a mine? And what does the place look like inside? You’ll find the answers in Summa’s photo gallery, a bonus entry in our Homes of The Times archive. More than 50 photo galleries have been posted at: latimes.com/homesofthetimes.
