Nick Lamaison leads Mt. SAC into state title game Saturday

Mt. San Antonio College will be out to defend its state championship and unofficial standing as the best junior college football team in the nation when it plays host to City College of San Francisco on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the California Community College Athletic Assn. championship game.

The Mounties (12-0), who took their fourth consecutive Southern California title Nov. 27 with a 51-0 victory over Cerritos College, have an 18-game winning streak and are the top-ranked team in JCGridwire.com’s national rankings. San Francisco (11-0), ranked No. 2 nationally, won the Northern California title on Nov. 27 and is hoping for a repeat of its victory over the Mounties in the 2007 state title game.

Mt. SAC is led by quarterback Nick Lamaison, who transferred back to his hometown college after redshirting at Tennessee in 2009. The former West Covina South Hills standout has passed for a state-leading 3,770 yards this season. Many of those passes have gone to former Glendora High receiver Michael Edwards, who leads the state with 1,200 receiving yards.
