Former San Francisco Giants pitcher Barry Zito, who currently has one home on the market in Los Angeles, has listed his hillside estate in Marin County’s Kentfield neighborhood for rent at $25,000 a month. Alternatively, the property can be purchased for $8.995 million.
Set behind gates, the two-acre property centers on a four-bedroom, five-bathroom Mediterranean-style home with expansive views of Mt. Tamalpais and Phoenix Lake. Set adjacent, a guest house offers an additional en-suite bedroom and a kitchen.
Designed for indoor-outdoor living, the living room, dining room and kitchen open onto an entertainer’s terrace and formal gardens. Teak-framed doorways, walnut and limestone flooring are found throughout the 7,116 square feet of living space.
Outdoors, the tiered grounds contain a barbecue area, an outdoor fireplace and an infinity pool. A large motor court and a three-car garage complete the setting.
Zito, currently a free agent, won two World Series titles in seven seasons with San Francisco. He began his career with the Oakland Athletics and won the American League Cy Young Award in 2002.
The 36-year-old previously asked $28,500 a month to lease the estate last year, public records show. He paid $8.863 million for the property in March 2007.
William Bullock, Max Applegarth and Lydia Sarkissian of Decker Bullock Sotheby’s International Realty are the listing agents.
In May, Zito and his wife, Amber, listed a home, which includes a hillside pitching mound, in Hollywood Hills West for sale at $4.2 million. Now priced at $3.4 million, the property currently shows a status of pending.
