Photo gallery: A history of Oak Forest

South suburban Oak Forest is probably best known as the home of Oak Forest Hospital, which opened in 1910 as the Oak Forest Infirmary. Aside from the hospital development, the area was mostly rural until a population boom in the 1960s. Oak Forest is now home to more than 28,000 residents.
