FX’s ‘Louie’ to take extended hiatus; Season 4 launch now in 2014

“Louie,” FX’s critically acclaimed comedy created and starring Louis C.K., will take an extended hiatus and will delay the scheduled launch of its fourth season from summer 2013 to spring 2014.

“At the end of the third season, Louie asked if he could take an extended hiatus,” FX President and General Manager John Landgraf said. “I agreed to give him whatever space he needs.”

In addition to starring in the show, Louis C.K. is also writer, producer and editor, in addition to other duties. He’s also just started a 22-city stand-up tour that will continue until early next year.

The next season of the series is a priority, he says, but he wanted more time to pull it together.

He praised the cable network: “I’ve never loved working at any place so much,” before adding: “The first three seasons were a surge of fun and work and stories ... but I don’t want to be making a donut. I want for it to continue to be funny.”

In the observational show, Louis C.K. plays a comedian and single father who encounters a variety of often absurd situations in his personal and professional life. Two weeks ago, Louis C.K. won a comedy writing Emmy for the show.

The comic said he sees the first three seasons as the beginning of a trilogy and he would like the fourth season “to go somewhere different. I’d like the show to morph and start a new story. I don’t know what that is. I need a little bit of breathing time, and pie and coffee, to figure that out.”
