‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Louie’ win Writers Guild awards for TV series

The movies contending for Academy Awards next Sunday stole the focus at the Writers Guild of America awards Sunday, but there was news in television writing as well.
AMC’s “Breaking Bad” won for writing for a drama series, and “Louie” on FX won for comedy series.
In the episodic categories, “The Other Woman” episode of “Mad Men” written by Semi Chellas and Matthew Weiner won for drama, while the “Virgin Territory” episode of “Modern Family” written by Elaine Ko won for comedy. “Girls” took the prize for new series.

Danny Strong won for “Game Change” in the category of long-form adapted television, and Ted Mann, Ronald Parker and Bill Kerby won for “Hatfields and McCoys” in long-form original.
The “Ned ‘n Edna’s Blend Agenda” episode of “The Simpsons” written by Jeff Westbrook won for animation.
For comedy/variety, “Portlandia” won for series, and the “66th Annual Tony Awards” won for special.
