Cactus and succulents from around the globe are on display — and for sale — at the Huntington

Cactus and succulent fans who know a sempervivum from a haageocereus can decipher even more unusual specimens at the Cactus and Succulent Society of America’s 51st show and sale at the Huntington on Saturday and Sunday.
The July 2-3 event is geared toward collectors and neophytes alike as hundreds of plants from around the world will be on display, including ones native to Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Botswana, Madagascar and the Middle East. The juried competition will be composed of categories for photography, paintings, crafts and dish gardens.

Given current drought conditions, it’s not surprising that the show is one of the Huntington’s most popular events. Plants and related items will be on sale both days during the show, but note that cactophiles will get first crack at plants during an early bird sale on Friday.
