A man jogging along East Coast Highway in Corona del Mar was struck and killed by a possible drunk driver on Thursday night, police say.
Edward Salkin, 81, of Corona del Mar was declared dead at the scene at 9:28 p.m., according to the Orange County coroner’s office.
Police arrested pickup driver Robert John Greaney, 23, of Costa Mesa on suspicion of hitting the man, who was running in the bike lane just west of Morning Canyon Road, authorities told Times Community News.
Jail records show that Greaney was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Police say he was booked on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter.
Newport Beach police say an investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Eric Little at (949) 644-3746 or [email protected].
