Pasadena police officer shoots, wounds man said to have gun

A Pasadena police officer shot and wounded a 23-year-old man after a foot chase near the Kings Villages apartment complex Friday morning when the man allegedly pointed a handgun at officers.

Patrol officers made “an enforcement stop” on the man, who took off running, starting a foot chase to a nearby housing complex around Hammond Street and Morton Avenue, officials said.

During the chase, the man “allegedly presented a handgun in a threatening manner,” Pasadena police said in a statement. “One of the officers fired at the suspect. The suspect was hit and fell to the ground.”

Investigators found a firearm “in close proximity to the suspect.” The man was immediately taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital. Several people in the neighbor reported hearing five or six shots being fired, police said.

An investigation was ongoing and the Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Team was on scene. The streets around the incident were closed to traffic.
