The pedestrian who was struck by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s police vehicle remained hospitalized in stable condition late Wednesday, and it was unclear how soon she would be released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Juliet Nicolas, 60, was likely to spend a second night at County-USC Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Rosa Saca said. Garcetti was a passenger in the police vehicle that struck Nicolas early Tuesday afternoon at the corner of South Spring and 2nd streets in downtown Los Angeles.
Garcetti visited Nicolas at the hospital Wednesday morning.
“We had a nice conversation and I am very pleased that she is in good spirits,” he said in a written statement released by his office. “I wish her a speedy recovery.”
Garcetti was on the phone with a journalist when Nicolas was struck just outside the Los Angeles Times building. The accident was captured by a Times security camera. Authorities have declined to specify the injuries that Nicolas suffered.
