Law enforcement authorities in Riverside County on Monday said they had launched a hate crime investigation after a racial epithet was scratched on a woman’s vehicle.
The crime was reported Sunday in the 1300 block of Pocono Court in Moreno Valley.
“Based on the correlation between the victim’s ethnicity and the comment left on the car, the incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime,” Sgt. Curt Bright of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
The damage to the vehicle exceeded $5,000, the department said.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call investigators at (951) 247-8700.
