Evacuations lifted in Van Nuys after bomb squad searches stolen truck

An LAPD bomb squad that was investigating several suspicious objects found inside the bed of a stolen truck in Van Nuys have cleared the incident and lifted an evacation.
Authorities said the suspicious items turned out to be a backpack, a gas can and some metal shavings.
Earlier, authorities expressed concern after finding the metal shavings, a fuse and a gas canister inside the stolen truck at about 1:15 p.m. in the 15200 block of Vose Street, LAPD Officer Drake Madison said.
The discovery prompted officials to evacuate nearby apartment buildings and a shopping center.
Workers with the California Department of Transportation had been investigating the stolen truck when they discovered drugs and contacted police, KTLA reported.
Police arrived and called the bomb squad.
