Los Angeles police said they shot and wounded a woman inside a downtown building Friday after she answered the door holding a knife.
Officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 100 block of East 3rd Street about 1 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Richard French.
Officers went to a room on the fifth floor of the building and announced themselves, French said. A woman who appeared to be in her 50s opened the door armed with a knife and officers opened fire, striking her, he said.
The woman was taken to a hospital. Her condition was not available.
No officers were injured in the incident, French said.
Authorities did not identify the woman or the officers involved in the shooting.
