Norman Rockwell painting reported missing in New York

A painting by Norman Rockwell that recently sold for more than $1 million has been reported missing in New York.
The New York Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in finding “Sport,” a painting that depicts a man sitting in a boat, holding a fishing rod and wearing a yellow rain jacket.
“Sport” was sold at a Sotheby’s auction in May for approximately $1.1 million. The 1939 painting, which appeared on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post, was sold by a private collector from Birmingham, Ala., according to the auction house.
The painting vanished from a warehouse used by the Welpak art moving and storage company, located in Maspeth in the borough of Queens. Police say the painting went missing from the warehouse in September, according to reports.
Rockwell’s painting is oil on canvas and is 27-1/2 by 22 inches in size. The painting once belonged to Fred Hildebrandt, the model whom Rockwell used for the work.
