Letters: Confiscating guns

Re “State getting guns out of some hands,” Feb. 19
In reviewing the massive backlog related to California’s excellent program to confiscate guns from convicted felons and others on the state’s Armed Prohibited Persons list, is it at all possible that a simple letter with a 10-day deadline that offers amnesty in exchange for the voluntary surrender of the weapon, as opposed to a surprise visit from a SWAT team, might very well have a positive effect while saving a ton of taxpayer money?
