Football: Three locals honored by National Football Foundation

ANAHEIM - The Orange County Chapter of the National Football
Foundation and College Hall of Fame will honor 46 high school football
scholar-athletes at an awards banquet Monday at 7 p.m. at the West Coast
Anaheim Hotel.
Corona del Mar High’s Charlie Alshuler, as well as Costa Mesa’s
Charlie Amburgey and Louis Day are among the 46 athletes to be honored at
the event.
Alshuler tied for the Orange County lead with nine interceptions and
joined Day and Amburgey on the All-Pacific Coast League first team.
Amburgey was a strong force on the Mustangs’ offensive line, while Day
had three interceptions and two sacks as a hard-hitting linebacker. He
also caught 10 passes for 192 yards as a tight end.
Ron Yary, a former standout player for both USC and the Minnesota
Vikings as well as a college and pro football hall of fame inductee, will
assist in the presentation.
A social and silent auction will take place at 6 p.m., followed by the
scholar-athlete presentation at 7.
