Taking on the problem of child abuse

A charity advocating the eradication of child abuse has honored one of Newport-Mesa’s most devoted and compassionate women, Sandy Segerstrom Daniels.

When the Orange County chapter of Childhelp USA held its spring fashion luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine, it bestowed the 2006 Children’s Friend Award upon Segerstrom Daniels.

She could not have been more pleased. Segerstrom Daniels has devoted her considerable talent and financial resources to helping better children’s lives. By advocating improved educational opportunities, healthcare and social services of many varieties, she has positioned herself as a leader in Orange County’s charitable scene, rallying the community for worthwhile causes. Her down-to-earth, modest and straightforward advocacy makes a real difference for children. Segerstrom Daniels is not just about the “fluff” ? she is all about the “stuff.”

Some 500 patrons of Childhelp gathered at the Hyatt. Joining Segerstrom Daniels were Patti Edwards, Diana Miner, Nancy Whitlock, Mary Allyn Dexter, Julie Whittington and Kathyrn Glassmyer.

Childhelp founder Yvonne Fedderson and Sara O’Meara were also present for the affair, flying in from their Arizona homes. The afternoon was highlighted by a glamorous runway fashion show produced by South Coast Plaza and featuring the lines of Dolce & Gabbana, DKNY, Emporio Armani, Escada, Traffic, TSE and Vertigo.
