Board to vote on closing school

The Fountain Valley School District board plans to vote Thursday on whether to close Fred Moiola K-8 School.
Supt. Marc Ecker has recommended shutting down the school as a means of saving district funds. The School Boundary & Closure Committee, a 20-member group of parents, school officials and community members, suggested closing Moiola after a series of meetings this year.
The board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in district headquarters at 10055 Slater Ave., Fountain Valley.
Moiola, the district’s only kindergarten-through-eighth-grade campus, will close July 1 if the board approves. Parents and students have protested the closure at board meetings this year.
