No injuries were reported after a small fire broke out Saturday afternoon at Mozambique in Laguna Beach.
The cause of the fire, which started around 3:34 p.m. behind a wall “in a subspace area on the second floor” of the restaurant at 1740 S. Coast Hwy., is still under investigation, Laguna Beach Fire Department Division Chief Api Weinert wrote in an email.
”...as of now it does not appear to be suspicious or related to the construction being done on site,” he said. Damages are estimated at about $10,000, he added.
Four Laguna fire engines, a chief and a Orange County Fire Authority truck were at the scene, and put it out once they opened up the restaurant’s wall to find the fire’s exact location, according to Weinert.
